What is your favorite part of blogging in the stepparenting/co-parenting realm?
The best part of blogging is reading the amazing responses from other stepmoms that relate to what we write about. I love reading comments that tell us what we are doing is really helping them navigate through the many challenges that Stepmoms face. There are so many Stepmoms out there looking for support and resources to help them. Knowing that our stories and tips are helping these women is truly rewarding.

What made you want to start blogging about something so personal?
I wanted to make a difference in the Stepmom world. There are very few resources out there for blended families. Once I started talking to other women, I noticed that sharing stories is the best way to make other Stepmoms feel like they aren’t alone in this journey. Having another Stepmom to listen to and talk to really helps us make it through the tough times. My personal stories are very similar to other Stepmoms out there.

What’s the hardest topic you’ve chosen to write about?
Holidays, Mother’s Day, Christmas. I think that’s one of the toughest challenges of being in a blended family. When you have children, you expect to be with them on those special days as they grow up. It’s difficult situation to manage and one that is very emotional to write and talk about.

Are there days you step back from your co-parenting role? What does that look like to you?
Yes, of course. There are often decisions that need to be made for my stepchildren that must be made by my husband and their biological Mom. I always listen to what my husbands thoughts are and I will often share my feelings about it, however, at the end of the day, it is their decision to make. I step back and always support my husband in the decisions he makes. It’s not always easy, but as a co-parent, there are boundaries that exist.

What is your favorite part about co-parenting?
As a step parent, sometimes the children feel more comfortable talking to me rather than their biological parents. I am a neutral adult in their life that can offer advice or just be there to listen to them when they need me. Those times are very special to me.

What is the message you want to share with the world?
That you are not alone on this journey. Social Stepmom wants to be a resource for Stepmoms across the world. We want to help bring you closer to others going through the same challenges that you are going through. We want to provide you with all of the resources you will need to help you thrive in your Stepmom role.

What is your personal motto?
“Happiness is a choice – you decide”. Don’t forget “This too shall pass!”

What’s a fun fact very few know about you?
I was a gymnast for 10 years.

What’s your favorite article you’ve ever written?
My article for Huffington Post for Mother’s Day.
