How To Detox Your Skin After the Holidays!

How To Detox Your Skin After The Holidays

The clock has struck midnight and the new year has begun!  If you are anything like us, you might have over-indulged this holiday season on good food, great drinks, and a lot of sweets!

If you have noticed that your skin is looking a little less than perfect after this holiday season, those extremely delicious treats you indulged in are the culprit! 2019 is here and it is time for a fresh start, that means a detox for your skin!

Follow the steps that we have put together to give your skin the detox it deserves.

Step One: Steam

Have you ever gotten a facial at a spa that included a steam before your session starts? You know how this feels, wrapped up all cozy in your bathrobe listening to that super relaxing music? Recreate that sensation this year and get your steam on at home!

Lush's Toner Tabs are the perfect addition to some steamy water to get your pores open, cleared, and detoxed. To use:

  • Clean your skin with your favourite face wash
  • Drop a Toner Tab into hot steamy water
  • Lean over at a safe distance and allow the steam to rise up to your face
  • Wait for a few minutes with the Toner Tabs work their magic!
  • To finish, pat skin dry

Lush has a number of different Toner Tabs, our favourite is tea tree. Tea tree oil clears blemishes by drying out the excess oil in your skin to keep your complexion clear. These tabs also contain cooling aloe vera that soothes redness and irritation.

This step will flush out all immediate toxins and prep your skin for the rest of your detoxifying skincare regime.

Step Two: Cleanse & Exfoliate

Washing your face with face wash is great for daily maintenance of the skin. For this detox, we are going to go deeper to cleanse our skin by using a physical exfoliant.

Our favourite cleansing and exfoliating tool is the Mia Prima Sonic Facial Cleansing Brush by Clarisonic.

This incredible tool is able to clean skin 10x deeper than washing your face with your hands alone. Not only is this tool going to ve exfoliating your skin and removing all deep dirt, oil, and dead skin cells from the skins surface and pores- it also feels like you are getting a massage! The brush vibrates to really dig deep into your pores, feeling like a treatment you could only dream of receiving at a spa while in the comfort of your own home.

Step Three: Mask

After your skin is squeaky clean it is time to really dive deep and pull all the remaining toxins out with a face mask. When shopping for a mask, look for words such as ‘clarifying’, ‘purifying’ or ‘detoxifing’.

Our favourite is the Glam Glow Super Mud Mask. It is an intense mud mask that will dry down completely on your face. It works hard to pull out any congestion in your skin.

Once you rinse it off you will feel the difference on your skin. One of our favourite aspects of this mask is that you can literally see the oil being absorbed and pulled out by the clay. Pay close attention to your nose, this is typically a problem area for many of us (goodbye blackheads!)

Step Four: Tone

Toners are so incredibly important to your skincare routine, yet an alarming amount of women admit that they don't include this step in their skincare routine!

A toner will re-balance the PH level of your skin after cleansing and close up those pores. Sometimes our cleanser can be extremely harsh, so this step is really important to the overall health of your skin.

One of our favourites is the Olehenriksen Balancing Force Oil Control Toner. This is a pore refining toner that will remove oil, tighten pores, and clarify the overall look of your skin!

Stepmoms, we can't stop there. We love toning so much that we have made this a 2 part step. Get your hand on a Jade roller and watch the overall look of your whole face transform the more you use this product.

A Jade roller is a tool that you literally roll all over your face. Roll in upwards in outwards motions to help fight back against whatever affects gravity is currently having on your face.

Jade rollers give a cooling, soothing effect on the skin and promote drainage from the face to reduce facial tension.

They also reduce puffiness which is a must after the craziness of the holidays!

Step Five: Moisturize

Lack of sleep, lack of water, and the cold winter weather can leave your skin very dry and dull. It has never been more important to moisturize.

If you're used to using a cream, we strongly suggest you opt for a facial oil instead.

A facial oil provides much more moisture to the skin, leaving skin feeling plump and ready to take on the harsh and cold weather.

Our favourite is the Josie Maran Pure Argan Oil. Argan oil is non-comedogenic which means it will not clog your pores. If you are prone to breakouts or have extremely sensitive skin, this type of oil is perfect for you.
