Sarah Paterson

Sarah Paterson is a Toronto-based mom, stepmom and entrepreneur. She and her husband have two daughters (ages one and four) and she has also been a stepmom for six years to her husband’s five other children (three girls and two boys) ages 7, 11, 13, 18 and 20. Sarah was born and raised in Sudbury, Ontario and was herself a child of divorced parents which resulted in her living through some of the challenges of such circumstances.

From a young age, she was independent-minded and driven to make a difference in the world. Sarah began computer programming at the age of 15 and obtained an Information Technology Diploma from Cambrian College in 2000. She immediately set out to conquer Bay Street (Canada’s Wall Street) landing her first job at Yorkton Securities, then Canada’s leading Technology Investment Bank. When the tech bubble burst a year later, she re-channeled her entrepreneurial energies into a career in residential real estate sales (residential and high end cottages) which she continues to do part-time. Sarah also enjoys contributing her time as a Parent Rep at her child and stepchildrens’ school, a committee member of the Human Rights Watch Dinner, a long standing committee member of the Kids, Cops and Computers Inspiration Gala and as the newest Board Member of U for Change.

After years of experiencing the joys (she says there are some!) and the challenges associated with being a stepmom, in April 2017, Sarah launched Social Stepmom - a unique interactive networking platform for the world’s Stepmom sisterhood. Social Stepmom’s Society (a subscription platform) launched in October 2017 affording stepmoms a forum to interact online. Features include skype calls with Sarah, online guest speakers, chat messages, stepmom guides, blogs, modules, Q&A’s, a book club and more - inviting and encouraging all of those in this massive sisterhood to chime-in and engage with thoughts, ideas, wisdom and even, if appropriate, get-it-off-your-chest complaints 😊. Also during the year, Social Stepmom Ambassadors (are you one?) will host meet & greets, mini sessions and more. As well, each year selected major cities (starting with Toronto, Vancouver, NYC, LA) will have a Social Stepmom Soiree - the ultimate in stepmom interaction.
Erin Careless

I’m Erin and I am the Director of Education and the Ambassador Program for Social Stepmom. My husband Matt and I got married in 2015, and I am stepmom to two great kids, Oliver and Waverleigh. We also have a little girl, Grace, who is adored by her siblings. I have a PhD in Adult Education, and my research focuses on stepmothers and how they learn to navigate their role. I am also a certified Stepfamily Coach, and love working with stepfamilies to help them find peace and happiness in “steplife", which can be challenging and very complex. In addition to publishing content for Social Stepmom, my articles can be found in StepMom Magazine, Stepparenting Magazine, the Huffington Post, The Divorce Magazine, and DivorceForce. In 2017 I hosted a weekend Stepmom Retreat in Toronto, and I look forward to planning another for 2019 on the East coast.
Aimee Allen

Aimee Allen was born and raised in Windsor, Ontario, however currently resides in Barrie, just north of Toronto with her husband and their five children.  She is both a biological Mom to her son (17) and daughter (15) and also a Stepmom to her husband’s son and two daughters (15, 10, 8).  Her biological children also have a Stepmom, so Aimee brings both perspectives to the discussion.

A child of divorced parents herself, Aimee never realized the challenges of being a Stepmom until she became one.  “I was always focused on the challenges of being the kid with divorced parents.  I never thought about what my Stepmom was going through all those years.”

Aimee has been a Stepmom to Mike’s children for 7 years.  She agrees with the statement that it takes 6-7 years to successfully blend a family.  There have been a lot of challenges along the way, all learning experiences that Aimee is passionate about using to assist other Stepmoms looking for guidance and support.

Aimee has worked in the Gaming Industry for 22 years starting out as a Chip Bank Cashier at the Northern Belle Casino and moving up through various management positions at Casino Niagara, Slots at Windsor Raceway and Ontario Lottery and Gaming.  For the past 10 years, she has worked as an Operational Excellence Consultant specializing in Continuous Improvement.  She received her Black Belt in LEAN Six Sigma in 2010 and her certification in Prosci Change Management in 2015.  She uses her LEAN knowledge and Six Sigma skills to assist others in making positive changes and improve efficiencies both at work and at home.

Aimee is known all across Social Media as The Happy Stepmom.  She has made amazing relationships with other Stepmoms that she has met over the internet and loves to chat with them daily.  She feels that it is extremely important to make connections with other Stepmoms as communication is so important in this complex role.  Her mission is to help other Stepmoms understand that they too CAN be happy with Stepfamily life despite the unique challenges that they face.

After attending a Stepmom Retreat in Dallas, Texas, Aimee was asked to be on the cover of Stepmom Magazine.  She was the first Canadian Stepmom to be pictured on the cover which was published in August of 2014.  The Retreat also made Aimee realize that Stepmoms connecting in person was just the therapy she needed.

An avid reader, Aimee was recently asked to provide a review prior to the publication of the book “Blending Families” by Trevor Mullineaux.

Aimee joined Social Stepmom as Society Content Director on June 26, 2017.  She is absolutely thrilled about sharing much needed content with others and is looking forward to connecting with Stepmoms from all across the world!
